Review: Ruined by A.K. Evans

Synopsis:

Hanna Briggs was just as riveted to the news as the rest of the town when a seemingly innocent man was murdered. The difference was that while they all prayed for justice, Hanna felt relief.

But then someone else Hanna knows is murdered. And another. And another.

Leo Webb is the lead investigator on the case, helping the local police department to find the person responsible for the deaths in town. He never imagined his investigation would point him to Hanna.

Gut instinct tells Leo that Hanna’s not responsible. The timid and delicate woman doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.

Unfortunately, those in charge need a scapegoat. The bodies are piling up, and Hanna seems to be the only link.

Is she the suspect or the next victim?

Leo is going to have to get to the bottom of this case. Because if he doesn’t, Hanna’s life may be ruined. And so will his chance at love.

My Review:

Title: Ruined
Author: A.K. Evans
Format: ebook
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Standalone: yes
Part of a Series: Book 8 in Harper Security Ops
POV: Hanna, Leo
Steam Level: Slow burn to steamy
5/5

Ruined in the eighth book in the Harper Security Ops books and is a standalone. In the previous book you meet both characters (I’ve only read the previous book so don’t know if Leo has shown up in the ones prior to that). I loved learning Hanna’s story. After overcoming the odds Hanna runs her own tiny house rental property. Because of her past, Hanna is wary of getting close to anybody but Leo breaks through her walls. When people from her past start being murdered she opens herself up – somewhat – to Leo who, unbeknownst to her, is helping the police investigate the murders. I loved how this book turned out. I had the suspects narrowed down to two and I was right. But it was still fun to guess and follow the breadcrumbs that A.K. Evans was dropping. Not many suspense books surprise me so I’m not disappointed that I had it narrowed down. The climax was intense and I couldn’t stop reading to find out how it would end. I loved the epilogue and am looking forward the next book in this series.

I received an advanced copy of this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.
