Review: Bodyguard by Tabatha Kiss

Category : Reviews

Synopsis:
I’d give my life for hers.
And they’re hell-bent on making me.

Everyone has a celebrity they’re head over heels for. Mine is Roxie Roberts. Every man wants to date her and every girl wants to be her best friend. The perfect storm of talent and beauty. But I knew her before the fashion and the fame. Before all of that crap, she was my stepsister, Dani.

Beautiful, off-limits Dani Roberts.

I thought I’d never see her again. I left home with nothing and joined the army to become something she’d be proud of. Instead, I became a killer for the deadliest underground organization in the world, Snake Eyes. They didn’t give me much choice, but I couldn’t live like that. I faked my death and I’ve been in hiding ever since, determined to spend the rest of my days atoning for my sins.

Somehow, Snake Eyes found out I’m still alive. They can’t track me down, so they’re going after the one thing they know I care about to lure me out once and for all.

I won’t let them hurt you, Dani. Even if it kills me.

Bodyguard is a standalone romantic suspense novel. It contains violence, lots of steam, and is intended for adults only.
This is Book 1 of the Snake Eyes series. While it is not required to read the series in order of release, it is highly recommended to experience the full effect of Snake Eyes!

The Snake Eyes Series: Stand-alone Romances. Interconnecting Stories. One Unforgettable Adventure.

My Review:
Genre: Romance – Stepbrother, suspense
Stand- Alone: Yes
Part of a Series: Yes Book 1 of the Snake Eyes Series
POV: Alternating Fox and Dani
Steam Level: Warm
4.5/5

I’ll be honest and say that I tend to avoid stepbrother romances in general.  The concept is just a little too skeevy for me. However I gave The Bodyguard a shot for two reasons:
1.    Tabatha Kiss is a great writer.  I’ve enjoyed every book that I’ve read of hers – so much so
that I’ve become one of her advanced readers.
2.    As an advanced reader I received book 5 in this series and I’m OCD. I don’t like reading
series out of order so I started with book 1 which happens to be a stepbrother romance.

Despite my reservations going in, I found this book to be an enjoyable read.  It was light on the steam and portrayed realistic feelings of guilt and shame over being attracted to a sibling.  This attraction, however, was not the main focus of the story.  Instead it focused on the action, adventure and suspense of being on the run from an organization of assassins.  The story was gripping and riveting.  Once I started it I had a hard time with putting it down   Tabatha Kiss proves once again how talented she is as a writer- especially since it’s a genre I generally avoid.

My only complaint is that there wasn’t an epilogue. I’d like to see more of how Fox and Dani deal with their every day lives. Hopefully we will see more of this in the rest of the series.

I received this book for free from the author. I am voluntarily giving and honest review.
