Review: Longing for Wolves by Dakota West

Synopsis:
Calder Waltz is finished with love.

She died, and with her went his relationship with his mate Sam. With nothing left to lose, Calder drove off into the sunset. He’s spent years bouncing from place to place, and now returning to town for his little sister’s wedding is harder than leaving in the first place.

Then he meets Annika, a curvy brunette who tempts him that way for the first time in years. Suddenly Calder’s world has tilted on its axis, and he can’t stop thinking about her.

Annika’s too busy running her bakery to date one person, let alone two shifters – after all, they mate in triads. She especially doesn’t have time for her best friend’s long-lost brother, Calder, even if the way he smiles does make her feel warm and gooey inside. He’s a drifter who refuses to settle down, and she wants a partner, not a project.

Too bad she can’t seem to stay away from the big, brawny alpha with a tragic past…

When Calder shows up at Sam’s house in the middle of the night, completely wasted, his long-abandoned mate does the only thing he can. He lets him in. And with him, the potential for a new beginning – a second chance that centers around lovely Annika.

Can two former mates heal the rift between them? More importantly, can they learn to trust before they lose it all a second time?

How many fated mates does a shifter get?

My Review:
Genre: Romance – Paranormal, Shifter (wolves), MMF, Second-Chance
Standalone: Yes
Part of a Series: Yes Book 5 (of 5) of the Shifter Country Wolves Series All are standalones but some characters interconnect from different stories
POV: Calder, Sam, Annika
Steam Level: Quite toasty at times
5/5

Longing for Wolves is a great book to end this series. About love and trust and fixing your screw ups, Longing for Wolves is emotional, heart-warming and thought-provoking. Calder owns up to his past mistakes and Sam has to learn to trust him. Annika is reluctant and is the blunt voice telling them to work on themselves and each other first. This is an important lesson that everyone needs to learn. You cannot got into a relationship broken, you have to be willing to work on yourself before inviting others to deal with your issues. I loved Longing for Wolves. It’s my favorite of the series. Great work Dakota West. I cannot wait to read more.

I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Favorite Quotes:

  • When I’ve started something with you, you’ll know. Fix your shit.
  • Love is never rooms filled with flowers and laying down on a bed covered in rose petals. Sometimes it’s getting plastered and showing up on a front porch with no shoes because you think you might die if you go one more second without seeing someone even if they might not want you.
  • It’s strange how the things that matter the most doen’t announce themselves.
  • The only way to prove you’re staying is to stay…The only way to prove to someone that you trust them is to trust them, day in and day out.
