Review: Royal Bastard by Nana Malone
Category : Reviews
Don’t get in trouble, they said. Don’t cause an incident. Oops.
I might be a newfound prince, but that doesn’t mean I’m ready to say goodbye to my days of freedom. So when my brother, the king, asks me to babysit a diplomat’s daughter, my first thought is to say no… that is until I see her climbing out of a window with her dress tucked into her thong.
She might just be my kind of girl.
I just thought I’d mix business with pleasure…I didn’t plan to lose control of my heart.
I’ve been groomed by my parents to climb the social ladder all my life and I’m done with it. I want nothing from their royal world. Now that I’m finally on my own, I can live where I want, date who I want, do who I want.
The one person I won’t be doing? My new accidental roommate. Oh, he’s gorgeous and mysterious, and cheeky. He’s also friends with the king and a total jackass.
So basically, he’s never gonna get it…famous last words.
Royal Bastard is book one of the Royals Undone duet, set in the same world as Cheeky Royal and Cheeky King, however you do not need to read the Royals Undercover duet to swoon over this naughty new royal.
Other Books in the Royals Universe
Genre: Romance – Royal, enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, roommates, suspense, comedy
Standalone: Nope – This is quite a doozy of a cliffhanger
Part of a Series: Yes Book 1 of the Royal’s Undone series which follows after the Royal’s Undercover series. You don’t need to have read the two books in the Royal’s Undercover series but if you have then Royal Bastard is even better
POV: Lucas and Bryna
Steam Level: Slow burn to explosive
Royal Bastard kept me enthralled from the first page. It starts at Penny and Sebastian’s wedding. For readers of the Royal’s Undercover series this is a fun way to drop us right back into their world and Lucas’s story. Lucas is Sebastian’s half-brother, the secret prince and a mostly-reformed con-man/bad boy. The hijinks he gets into are quite funny as he’s trying to be good but sometimes people are just too easy for him to not steal from. You can really feel his conflict, his struggle to behave.
Bryna is hilarious. She’s trying to find herself, determined to be independent, and can see right though Lucas (which drives his insane). The push-pull between Bryna liking and being irritated by Lucas is immense.
Royal Bastard is another winner from Nana Malone. The characters’ struggles are palpable, the emotions real. Nana Malone is a master of writing hilarious romantic suspense novels that leave you gasping, laughing, and begging for more. I cannot wait for Royal Prince to come out.
I read an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.
- Take charge of your life. Or let someone else do it.
- You are not your past.
- Just being in his presence had me all itchy and agitated and made me want to throw things. Okay fine, I was already prone to throwing things on occasion, but with Lucas, everything was just worse.
- Bryna was prickly, a pain in the ass, who went off on wild bouts of cussing me out. She was basically a porcupine. One should should not fuck a porcupine.
- Never taunt the gods. Why? Because when you taunt the gods, they fuck with you.
- You can’t want for someone what they don’t want for themselves.
- You can’t save everyone. Some people don’t want to be saved.
- It was easy to run when you didn’t have much to carry.
- You are the master of my smile
