“This book is absolutely hilarious!” Pretty Little Book Reviews
“I thought the comparison to men and handbags was so genius! Becker really knows how to write to her audience, and this clever novel had me giggling throughout.” Chick Lit Plus
Clutch: a novel is the laugh-out-loud, chick lit romance chronicling the dating misadventures of Caroline Johnson, a single purse designer who compares her unsuccessful romantic relationships to styles of handbags – the “Hobo” starving artist, the “Diaper Bag” single dad, the “Briefcase” intense businessman, etc. With her best friend, bar owner Mike by her side, the overly-accommodating Caroline drinks a lot of Chardonnay, puts her heart on the line, endures her share of unworthy suitors and finds the courage to discover the “Clutch” or someone she wants to hold onto.
Author: Lisa Becker
Narrator: Suzanne Barbetta
Genre: Romance – Comedy
Part of a Series: I don’t think so
POV: Caroline, mostly but with an omnipotent narrator that delves into others’ thoughts
Steam Level: Toasty at times
3/5Overall, Clutch was a fun listen. I liked that comical dating situations that Caroline got in to. And the I liked the author’s playful game of not judging others by their appearance. I loved that Caroline looked like a dumb blonde but was in actuality a smart business woman. However, Caroline’s business smarts do not carry into her relationship smarts – and that got annoying. I felt like 80% of this book went nowhere and should have been titled Caroline Johnson’s Misadventures in Dating. It’s cute but I got a little bored. I did get a few laugh out loud moments though.
I received this audiobook for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.
